Liposuction in NYC

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction refers to the process of breaking up and removing excess fat from targeted regions of the body in order to create smoother, slimmer contours. Depending on a patient’s goals, Dr. Avraham can perform liposuction on a number of different regions of the body and face, including the abdomen, thighs, hips, arms, back, flanks, and jowls.

What Are the Benefits of Liposuction?

Liposuction is a versatile, minimally invasive procedure that can be performed virtually anywhere on the body. It can also be incorporated into a variety of other body sculpting procedures—such as a tummy tuck or breast reduction—to further accentuate the overall results. Some of the benefits associated with liposuction include:

  • Reduction or elimination of fat deposits in targeted locations
  • Smoother, slimmer body contours
  • The potential to use the harvested fat to augment other areas of the body—such as the breasts or buttocks—through fat grafting

Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?

Anyone with a persistent area of fat deposition may be a candidate for liposuction, making it a popular option for both men and women seeking to reduce targeted pockets of stubborn fat. Dr. Avraham will evaluate individual anatomy and goals during a consultation before creating a custom treatment plan to produce the best possible results.

How Is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure. Based on the details of the patient’s treatment plan, a thin cannula—or tube—is inserted into the targeted region(s) through very small incisions. Dr. Avraham guides the cannula through the treatment area, breaking up and suctioning away localized fat deposits until the desired contour is achieved. This process can then be repeated at different sites of the body, as desired, for comprehensive rejuvenation.

If the patient so chooses, fat harvested during the liposuction procedure can oftentimes be purified and then re-injected to add desirable volume to other parts of the body. Popular fat transfer destinations include the breasts, buttocks, and face.

What Does Liposuction Recovery Involve?

Patients are asked to wear a compression garment for the first few weeks after liposuction. Most people report that any post-operative discomfort is manageable and fades quickly. Time off from work can typically be limited to a few days to a week, depending on the physical demands associated with an individual’s profession. Strenuous activity should be avoided for at least the first two to three weeks after surgery, or until Dr. Avraham has given clearance at a post-operative follow-up appointment.
